WHAT ARE THE WAYS I CAN USE ESSENTIAL OILS?

THERE ARE THREE MAIN WAYS TO START INTEGRATING THESE LITTLE POWERHOUSE OILS INTO YOUR WORLD, READ ON TO FIND OUT HOW!

AROMATICALLY

Our sense of smell is powerful!  Being connected to the Olfactory nerve and limbic system means that aromatic (sense of smell) experiences of Essential oils are able to elicit strong mental and emotional response very quickly.

Some oils (like Lavender, Lavender Peace and Easy Air) are geared towards creating calming responses and others (like Peppermint, Lemon and Wild Orange) are great for stimulating a sense of alertness and being awake, focused and ready to go!  There are oils that promote balance, joy, motivation, confidence and so many other emotional states and here are some of the ways you can enjoy them via the aromatic sense:

  • Diffuser: (errrm, yep, we have 4!) Generally using either cool air or water to disperse the oil into the atmosphere as a fine mist.

  • Straight out of the bottle! Yep, just pop that cap and inhale deeply to experience the benefits!

  • A few drops in your hand or down your shirt (careful with some of the ‘big | hot’ oils here.) and cup your face or make a ‘shirt tent’ and enjoy.

  • DIY mists, car freshener balls, and hanging decorations are also simple and cheap ways to enjoy essential oils aromatically.

Topically

Topical application refers to applying essential oils to the skin or affected area. Because essential oils have low molecular weights and are lipid soluble, they easily penetrate the skin. Once absorbed, they stay in the applied area for a localised benefit so this is a very effective way to use them for a wide range of desired states & healing.

Using a carrier oil and in conjunction with light massage will further enhance the absorption and effectiveness of the oil (like Fractionated Coconut oil), as well as ensuring that dilution is considered in relation to some oils which can bring about a skin sensitivity.

Some easy ways to use oils in this way are to add one or two drops to a spoon of carrier oil in your hand and apply directly or make up your own ready to go blends in roller (which you will get a few of in my welcome pack that I send out if you join our team) or dripper bottles

Common places to apply include the neck, temples (there are some great headache & stress blends available – try Peppermint, Lavender, Rosemary & Frankincense to comfort your next migraine or headache!), chest, wrists and soles of the feet.

You can also add your oils to your bath soak or skin lotion for added benefit – or learn how to make your own from scratch!

Internally

Again there are several ways you can use essential oils internally, and there does need to be some extra caution exercised when using in this way, due to the potency of oils – and I certainly do not recommend taking any other oils internally outside of the dōTERRA range as there is no way of determining their purity.  So it won’t be for everyone, but there are some great benefits to be had!

There are several oils known to assist with digestion, cellular health and healing, detoxification and more! Many have powerful antibacterial and antifungal properties also.

Here are some of the ways I have used dōTERRA essential oils internally with great success:

  • In your water bottle: I love dōTERRA’s Smart & Sassy blend and have this everyday in my water bottle – I find it helps me drink more water, curb sugar cravings and stay generally feeling nice and fresh.  Lemon is another great one for adding to water as a digestive aid, along with Grapefruit, Peppermint and Wild Orange just to name a few.

  • When I notice the beginnings of something like a cold or flu-like symptoms I use a combination of oils in a veggie capsule and take it with meals to support my body in either avoiding the full blown symptoms all together or quickening the healing process. A great combo is dōTERRA’s On Guard blend, Oregano (be careful with this one, it is a big | hot oil!), Lemon and Copaiba or Frankincense

  • As a food additive – Peppermint, Wild Orange, Lemon and Grapefruit all make awesome additions to your favourite bliss ball recipes. They taste great AND you get the benefits too!  You can also use things like Cinnamon, Oregano and Basil in your cooking – just be sure to add them at the end when your mixture has cooled a little to retain as much of the good properties as you can.

  • In moments of high stress, panic, tension or headaches, a drop of Frankincense on the thumb and then pressed to the roof of your mouth works wonders too!
